Art is part of the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty. It is our aim that every student will find the subject challenging, interesting and enjoyable. We aim to develop young people into aspiring artists who can reflect on issues, subjects, processes in a creative manner and respond to the world in which we live in through a variety of 2D and 3D methods.

give each student a broad understanding of Art. The students follow a detailed programme of study, which allows the students to explore and experience a variety of art mediums and materials. They cover painting, graphics, clay work, sculpture and printing, as well as some forms of drawing within every project. This programme allows the students to have a firm foundation of understanding for GCSE Art.
At Key Stage 4 the students receive 4 periods of Art at GCSE Level. We also provide a vocational qualification which is the BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Art and Design. Students who choose this option have the opportunity to gain four GCSE grades from this subject. BTEC students receive eight periods of Art per week. The 2006 entries will be following the Edexcel specification.

The Art Department has recently had major refurbishment to all its rooms, including the creation of an art gallery, named thegallery@Kingswood. This has been a working gallery from September 2003 with exhibitions of local and national artists. The students have benefited from these links with practising artists and can learn from the work displayed. This link with the world of Art has informed the students of opportunities available to them as practising artists. The department has also provided another link with the community by working with Saffron Waghorn, a local stonemason who has taught students the art of stone carving. She has returned to the college to work with students in Key Stage 4.
The Art Department has strong links with Creative Partnerships and the Ferens Art Gallery. Projects to follow are Gifted and Talented whole city initiatives and Master Art Classes.
