The college provides a range of support services for students, all of which aim to put the student first and ensure their welfare. These include:-

·        Students First Co-ordinator

·        Year Leaders

·        Learning Mentors

·        Student Liaison Officers (SLOs)

·        School Nurse

·        Attendance staff

·        School Council

·        Senior Student Leadership Team (SSLT)

·        Student School Improvement Group (SSIG)

·        Lunchtime Supervisors

·        Learning Centre staff

The purpose of the Students First Co-ordinator is to assist in co-ordinating internal and external student support services in order that students have access to information and are meaningfully involved in decision-making at all levels; and to assist in ensuring that the college meets the needs of all vulnerable students, within curricular and non-curricular aspects of college life by consulting and providing advice and support to students and their parents, staff and other agencies.

Students First services have a corporate identity that helps students (and staff) see them as a cohesive network of support, rather than disparate, disjointed services. It also facilitates a more co-ordinated approach by the staff involved in the different areas of support, improving communication, ensuring consistency and reducing duplication of work.

Students are actively involved in decision-making, including decisions about their own learning. They also participate in staffing appointments (see Guidance on Student Involvement in Recruitment). The Healthy School Steering Group includes student members.
